The 2024 Tour Championship Recap

Atlanta, GA – Scottie Scheffler has won the 2024 Tour Championship. This marks his 12th career PGA Tour win. Along with the win and the title of top golfer of the year, he also pockets a $25 million dollar first place prize.

This final PGA Tour event of the year adopts a format to reward the leader of the FedEx Cup playoff points with an advantage. As a result, Scheffler started the week in a two stroke lead at 10-under par. After four rounds of stellar all-around golf from tee to green and a much improved putter, Scheffler finished with a score of 30-under par, winning by a total of four strokes.

The only player who had any semblance of a chance to pressure Scheffler was Colin Morikawa. With rounds of 66, 63, 67 and 66 he finished in solo second place with an overall score of 26-under par. While obviously a great showing, this was a “what could have been” season for Morikawa who finished with seven top five finishes, but no wins.

This championship for Scheffler is the culmination of a truly historic run of golf this season. This title makes Scheffler just the fifth player in the last 50 years to win 7 or more times in a single PGA Tour season. Those seven wins include The Master’s, The Players, and four out of the six signature events of the year.

He continues his 67-consecutive-week long run of being the world’s number one ranked golfer. It also marks the fifth longest streak of a number one player in history, and the longest since Tiger Woods’ 280 week reign as the world’s number one. He even brought home an Olympic gold medal to boot.

Now that the season-long race to the Tour Championship has ended, the next season will start up after a few weeks long break. The first event will be the Procore Championship in Napa Valley. The last time that event was held was when it was called the Fortinet Championship, the Tour Championship’s third place finisher Sahith Theegala won, so he will undoubtedly be looking to defend his title.
