2024 Procore Championship Recap

Patton Kizzire Starts FedEx Fall Off With a W

Napa, CA – Patton Kizzire (-20) is back in the winners’ circle after cruising to victory at the 2024 Procore Championship.  The Napa event hosted at Silverado remains one of the tour’s oldest regular stops despite the revolving door of its title sponsor.  The FedEx Fall is a time for up-and-comers and veterans to try to cement their status, potentially improve their positioning heading into the regular season.

Kizzire, the 38-year-old former Auburn standout had won twice previously on tour but hadn’t done so since the 2018 Sony Open.  He showed that he still has plenty left in the tank going forward.  In this case, it wasn’t particularly close.  Kizzire ended up beating the next closest player, David Lipsky, who secured his Tour card in the process, by five strokes. The leaderboard was fairly bunched up behind Lipsky at -15.

Patrick Fishburn finished solo third at -14, while Canadians Ben Silverman and Mackenzie Hughes finished T4 alongside Greyson Sigg at -13.  There was an even bigger group of players in T7 at -12: Tom Hoge, Austin Smotherman, Justin Lower, Corey Conners, and last year’s champion Sahith Theegala.

Theegala is an interesting case in that he doesn’t need to play in any of these Fall events to get into all the big tournaments this year but he revealed that he is “addicted to playing tournaments” in comments to the media before this event.

Other notable names in this field included Keith Mitchell (12th, -10); former US Am runner-up Neal Shipley (T13, -9); budding golf course architect and likely the shortest hitter on tour Zac Blair (also T13); and Min Woo Lee (T32, -7).

The PGA Tour will take a brief hiatus for the Presidents Cup to be contested at Royal Montreal.  It will resume October 3 at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, MS.  Luke List is the defending champion there.
