Galvin Green Larry Golf Jacket Review

50 Words or Less

The Galvin Green LARRY Golf Jacket is a lightweight top layer that protects golfers from wind and rain while also allowing for a full range of motion and an unrestricted golf swing.

Introduction

My motto has always been that if I need legitimate rain or wind gear to play golf, then it’s probably not worth playing.  However, between playing competitively and the occasional golf trip, I find myself often needing wind and rain gear, so I jumped at the opportunity to check out the latest outerwear from Galvin Green.  I took their newest release, the Galvin Green Larry golf jacket out in the New England Spring weather to test out.

Style

The Galvin Green LARRY Golf Jacket has a simple, muted style.  There are no loud colors or wild designs, just three color offerings: black, navy, and moonlight blue.  Since this is one of only a few pieces of weather resistant apparel that I have in my closet, I am delighted with the subdued color scheme and how well it pairs with a variety of pant and polo styles.

Galvin Green did a nice job contrasting the darker jacket colors with a white Galvin Green logo and zipper.  The white logo, which runs along the seam of the right shoulder is a pleasant change from the overplayed left pocket branding.

Fit

Being a Swedish company, most Galvin Green products run on the smaller side and this is no different.  I am usually between a medium and large in jackets, and the large fit perfectly.  This is not as tapered or slim fit as some of their other apparel products, but there are a good range of sizes from S-XXL to fit anyone’s preference.

On the course, the fit is unrestrictive through the arms and shoulders.  The drawstring along the base of the Galvin Green LARRY Golf Jacket can act as some additional customization should you not prefer the natural loose hanging fit.  You’ll notice the high collar for some added protection against the elements but even zipped all the way up, there is enough room in the collar to use comfortably for an entire round.

Performance

When I first pulled the Galvin Green LARRY golf jacket out of the bag, I immediately noticed the weight.  At 113 grams, it is lighter than a sleeve of balls.  This is not just beneficial when acting as my second or third layer, it’s great when I tuck it inside my golf bag.

Despite the light weight, Galvin Green invested some heavy technology into the Larry golf jacket.  The outer layer, named INTERFACE-1 is completely water-resistant.  Before ever leaving my house, I tested the material by sticking my arm under the faucet in running water.  The water beaded along the sleeve and rolled right off, performing better than I expected.  Even though Galvin Green recommends the Larry golf jacket for mild weather conditions, this water-resistant feature could keep you dry through much worse.

On the course, I mostly forgot I was even wearing this jacket.  It never pinched or bunched up while walking 18 or making a swing.  It was also quite versatile.  In the cooler morning temperatures, the inner lining PU Membrane kept my body heat from escaping while the outer shell protected me from any rain that might appear during a round.

Conclusion

The Galvin Green Larry golf jacket can provide benefit to any golfer’s closet.  While it’s wind and rain proofing make it essential for those harsher weather days on the course, the Larry is an ultra light weight jacket and won’t restrict even the most aggressive of golf swings.

Thanks for your review, Zach. The GG website does not include this among its waterproof products. It says “windproof and water repellent.” Are you confident that it would function as rain gear?

      Hey Peter,

Thanks for the correction. It does specify that it’s “water resistant” on their site so it’s been changed. With that said, I stand by my water test as described in my review.

      Thanks for reading!

      Zack
