The 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge Recap

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Ben Griffin is the victor at Colonial as the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge Champion. Griffin who walked away from golf in 2021 to pursue a job as a loan officer, now has won his second PGA Tour event since his return.

Ben Griffin was chased by world number one Scottie Scheffler who to no surprise had yet another solid week in Pennsylvania. Scottie posted a round of 64 on Saturday to vault himself onto the leaderboard. His final round wasn’t as good as he needed finishing with a one under 69 and in a tie for fourth place. Sponsor’s exemption Rickie Fowler made the most of his week by getting into the final grouping on Sunday. His final round hopes dwindled quickly when his driver abandoned him en route to an over par round and dropping out of the top 10.

Also chasing Griffin was German born golfer Matti Schmid. His wild final round included six birdies to six bogeys and a double including holing out on the 72nd hole to put some pressure on Griffin to sink his par putt. Matti has never won on the PGA Tour but his second place finish will provide with immense exemptions for the remaining of 2025 season.

Ben Griffin had just won in New Orleans in April in the team event with partner Andrew Novak which provided him the exemptions needed to get into the Charles Schwab Challenge. Griffin finished off his final round by draining critical par putts on both 14, 15, and the winning putt on 18 to retain his one shot lead. He never gave up the lead on Sunday despite some shaky iron play into some very hard greens at Colonia. Griffin lifted the trophy as a three time PGA Tour winner.

Next week, the PGA Tour heads to Ohio for The Memorial Tournament.
