Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond Fairway Wood Review

50 Words or Less

The Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood has a more compact shape and a taller face than the core model.  Lower spin will help faster swingers produce longer, more penetrating shots.  Strong ball speed across the face.

Introduction

Last year’s Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond fairway wood produced shots almost as long as its name [review HERE].  The new Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood aims to shorten the name without sacrificing the impressive distance that the Triple Diamond family has become known for.  I tested this players club against Callaway’s other 2025 fairway woods to find out which golfers should consider putting it in their bag.

Looks

The Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood has an address look that’s entirely distinct from the other Elyte FWs.  Where the other models have Callaway’s new Thermoforged Carbon crown, the Elyte Triple Diamond has a traditional gloss black crown, free of alignment aids.  The “Tour-Driven” shape slims rapidly from the heel and is nearly symmetrical.  Score lines run uninterrupted across the entire face.

Above, you can see the Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood (right) next to the Callaway Elyte fairway wood [review HERE].  To my eye, the most significant difference between the two models is the face height, which is hard to perceive in photographs.  The face of the Elyte TD FW is about 1/8″ taller, which is a big deal in a fairway wood, and it changes the overall perception of the club’s shape.  Also important, the Elyte Triple Diamond sits open at address where the standard Elyte is square.

In the bag, the Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood looks almost identical to the Elyte fairway wood, save for two things.  First, there are the namesake black diamonds under the “Elyte” branding.  Second, there’s a “forward weight screw” on the Step Sole which indicates that this club is designed with a forward CG for lower spin.

Sound & Feel

In keeping with its Tour-Driven look, the Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood has a quiet, player-approved impact sound.  On center, it’s a tight sound that’s almost a “click”.  Move away from the sweet spot and the sound starts to hollow out, providing strong audio feedback.

The feel of impact is similar to the sound.  When struck well, this club’s low, forward CG provides a strong, solid sensation.  Missing the center dramatically can cause this club to twist a bit, and the feeling in your hands will be weaker and emptier.  You will get precise feedback about strike location through your hands.

Performance

Where the standard Elyte fairway wood is the “total performance” club, aimed to appeal to a broad range of golfers, the Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood is more of a niche product.  Per Callaway, this club is “Best for Advanced Players” – handicaps +5 through 10.

The number one thing that’s meant to appeal to those players (outside of the look) is the low spin.  Callaway rates it as “Lowest” spin to pair with “Mid” launch.  This is achieved through a low, forward CG.  In my testing, I did see a clear difference between the standard Elyte and the Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood when it comes to launch and spin.  Averaging my best swings, the TD launched about 2 degrees lower with over 200 RPM less spin.  Standard caveat: I’m a low launch and spin player; the gaps you create may be bigger or smaller than mine.

What’s impressive about the Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood is that despite being an unapologetic players club, it doesn’t laugh off thin strikes.  I wasn’t getting optimal carry distance from mishits, but I wasn’t producing knee-high shots, either.

Speaking of forgiveness, the Elyte Triple Diamond retains ball speed much better than you might expect.  The Ai10X face and new Tungsten Speed Wave work together to make sure that mishits, especially low ones, don’t lose all their power.  To be clear, this is not as forgiving as the standard Elyte, but it’s far from a scary, Tour-only club.  If anything, I think Callaway’s recommendation of +5-10 handicaps is a little too narrow.

Additionally, the Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood has the new Step Sole design.  The benefits of this were evident in every Callaway fairway wood that I tested.  On good swings, the sole coasts along the ground without resistance.  On poor swings, I got more speed to the ball because less of the sole was dragging through the dirt.

Finally, the Elyte Triple Diamond FW has an adjustable hosel in the 3W.  With this, you can loft the club up to 16 or 17 degrees or take it down to 14.  You also have the ability to set the lie angle more upright which should promote a right-to-left ball flight.  The higher lofted models – 18 and 21 degrees – have traditional, bonded hosels.

Conclusion

By pairing unsurpassed ball speed with lower spin and launch, the Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond fairway wood will be one of the longest fairway woods for faster, high spin players.  While it was designed with input from the Tour, don’t be intimidated: this club has a surprising level of forgiveness, too.
